London. 1880. In the slums of Spitalfields apprentice blacksmith Luke is facing initiation into the Malleus Maleficorum, the fearsome brotherhood dedicated to hunting and killing witches.

Luke’s final test is to pick a name at random from the Book of Witches, a name he must track down and kill within a month, or face death himself. Luke knows that tonight will change his life forever. But when he picks out sixteen-year-old Rosa Greenwood, Luke has no idea that his task will be harder than he could ever imagine.

My Thoughts!

Luke hates witches and decides to join the Malleus Maleficorum. A society that hunts and kills witches. Luke is special as well. He can see the magic around witches. During hid trial for the Brotherhood he has to put a pin in a book and whoever it lands on Luke has to kill. His pin lands on Rosa.

Rosa is a witch whose family is on the very edge of poverty. They are keeping up appearances for everyone but are very much at the stage where they will be bankrupt soon. Her mother tells her she has to marry a very powerful and rich warlock, Sebastian Knyvet. Rosa has reservations about him because he has a wicked cruel streak but how can she refuse.

This book was amazing!! Captivating, spellbinding, rich in detail and thrilling. I loved it.

Luke at first seems like the bad guy. He hates witches for killing his family and has vowed to get revenge. He picks Rosas name and has no problem setting out to kill her. At first, even though he feels guilty in taking anyones life, he sets up an accident. She survives and over time he feels himself feeling things he shouldn't.  Will he be able to kill her?

Rosa has a hard life. Her beloved father died and her mother just sees her as an asset. Her brother is one mean and nasty so and so! He treats her like crap and I really disliked him. Her suitor is even worse than her brother but she is left with no choice.

I loved both Rosa and Lukes characters. Rosa is such a strong character, she is kind, nice and no matter what life throws at her, she does her best. Luke was another strong character. He struggles with what he has to do but in the end chooses right. When he first finds out he has to kill a witch he prays its the witch who killed his parents but either way he knows he has to do it because if he doesn't his life is forfeit!

I loved how slowly Rosa and Luke fell for each other. I'm glad it wasn't insta love! They both struggle with their feelings and in a way its harder for Luke to let go of the hatred he has felt most of his life.

The storyline dealed with a lot of tough things. The way both Rosas brother and Suiter treat her, when Sebastian does a certain thing in the park and the way Rosas family are to her. It was heartbreaking to read these but they added to the whole atmosphere of the book and really made you root for Rosa. Its a bleak world they live in and the author really drew you in and made you apart of the book. I cried and wanted to grab Rosa in a big squishy hug!!

I fell in love with Ruth Warburtons writing when I read her first series and Witchfinder has cemented my love! She is a writer I will automatically buy her books. She has a way of making you apart of the world she creates.

Overall Witchfinder is an amazing book. Full of magic, heartache, characters that will make you hate them and characters that will make you love them! It will make you cry, gasp and have you feeling so many different emotions. Its a book Id highly recommend and I cant wait for book 2 to see what happens.
