The long-anticipated fourth book of the bestselling Orbs series has finally arrived!
At the end of the world, who will escape?
Operation Redemption, the final desperate mission in taking back the planet from the Organics has failed. Captain Rick Noble and his soldiers have been captured and imprisoned on an alien ship. But not all is lost. Their sacrifice allowed Doctor Sophie Winston, Doctor Emanuel Rodriguez, and their small team to escape in the NTC Sunspot--their destination, Mars. The perilous journey to find a lost human colony may offer Sophie and the rest of humanity a chance at life.
Those left on Earth are caught in a life and death struggle. Corporal Athena Rollins of the NTC Ghosts of Atlantis submarine still believes they can beat the aliens with the help of AI Alexia, but time is running out. The oceans are draining, the temperatures are rising, and the other pockets of survivors are perishing every day.
Trapped on the Organic ship, Captain Rick Noble is desperate to escape and save his crew back on Earth. As he waits for his opportunity he finds an ally in the most unlikely of places.
The fight for Earth may be lost, but the fight for Mars and the future of the human race may have just begun...

My Thoughts:

Book 4 starts not long after book 3. Operation Redemption failed and Captain Noble and his team were captured and Noble is now aboard one of  the Alien ships. Sophie, Emmanuel and the crew have escaped on the NTC Sunspot, with Sophie and the kids kept in cryostasis till they reach Mars. Meanwhile, back on Earth, AI Alexia is helping survivours of the NTC Ghost of Atlantis take a stand against the organics. But time is running out for all of them, each have a battle on their hands to survive!

Wow, what a final book!! This book is relentless with its action and had me on the edge of my seat. Three different stories are happening and each of them left me breathless. First we have Noble who is aboard the enemy ship. He is kept in a cage and from what he can see from his cell, there is any number of different species from all over the galaxy. Not knowing what they want with all these species, Noble only knows he needs to escape. I loved Noble in this one!! He never gives up and holds out hope, not only for himself but his team! He is intent on getting back to them and stopping these organics no matter what.

Then we have Sophie, Emmanuel and the team heading to Mars. As they approach they see the thing they dreaded most! Blue orbs!! They get a distress signal near to them and have to go investigate, but things are worse then they taught and Mars isn't uninhabited!  The organics are here. When the Sunspot gets damaged, Emmanuel has no choice but to try to get Sophie to the biosphere where there should be life. Is this the end for the team?

Meanwhile back on earth, AI Alexia is trying to help the remaining survivours of the Ghost of Atlantis to fight back and try to bring down the organics. But life on Earth is getting harder with water a scarce commodity and temperatures soaring. How can the small band of survivours survive?

I couldn't read this book fast enough! Each of the separate stories were well written and developed and they all flowed seamlessly together to create an epic finale. Knowing this was the end was bitter sweet because I've gown to love these characters. They have an incredible amount to overcome but they keep on trying no matter what. They give their all to everything and are willing to do anything to help their fellow teammates. I admired each and every one of them.

I've read most of Mr. Smith's books and have loved them all, but I haven't read any by Mr. Melchiorri yet, even though I have a lot of them!! Anyway, I have to say that I don't know how they wrote this, whether is was one chapter each or some other way, but what I do know is that you can't tell that two separate authors wrote this. The writing is seamless and the plot continuity is perfect. They definitely did an amazing job together.

In all, this was amazing. Action packed, exciting, thrilling and with a few surprising twists thrown in, this series is a must read. I'm actually surprised I liked this series as much as I did because I don't like sci fi that deals with aliens or set in space that much, but this is much more than that, the characters journey is what captured my heart. I do think I'll try more alien sci fi though, because this was so good!! If anyone has any recommendations like this book, then feel free to let me know!

  1. Yes! I'm so glad you love this series. I'm finishing the last books in his Hell Divers and Trackers series and then starting on this one. His books are fast paced, full of action and have great characters.
